Lucy

Unlike college or holiday courses, our popular weekend courses take place in a professional studio context.

In order that students may benefit from individual guidance, numbers are limited to a maximum of eight. All ages and absolute beginners are welcome, although more advanced tuition can be given if you already have basic experience working with stone.

You can arrange to have a private course if you wish for your family and/or friends for a date that suits you.

During the two-day course, you will learn how to sketch an idea and mark out a carving. You will be shown how to use appropriate tools and will be introduced to a variety of stones used for carving and sculpture.

You will then be given a block of limestone (a soft stone which doesn't require heavy muscles to carve!) to work on at your own pace. And, even though many new students think it impossible, by Sunday afternoon you will have a finished stone carving to take home with you to decorate your house or garden!

Each day begins with coffee at 11am and Tom's wife Andrea provides homemade lunches both days. Please try to arrive at 9.50am am to familiarise yourself with the workshop. The day will finish around 4.30–5pm.

If you need accommodation while you are here, please look at the website www.martockonline.co.uk where you will find a range of places under the heading accommodation.

We have, new for this year, a shepherds hut in our garden which has a double bed with its own shower/loo and cooking facilities. Please contact Andrea if you are interested in booking this on tel. 01935 822111.
